Lake Georgetown in Georgetown, Texas

My next stop in Georgetown took me to Lake Georgetown.  Located just west of the city, I went to the portion which is described as the north fork of the San Gabriel River off Overlook Drive -- all of it being part of the Brazos River system.  The lake, dam and all surrounding property is maintained the Fort Worth District of the United States Army Corp of Engineers.  Not only is the whole expanse of Lake Georgetown a popular recreational area with camping areas and over 24 miles of biking and hiking trails, but it is also a source of drinking water for both Georgetown and the neighboring city of Round Rock.

Some branches and plants with Lake Georgetown in the background.  If you look closely, you can see a dragonfly on the branch to the far right.

A closer view of the dragonfly.

Some more branches poking out of the shallows.

A plant growing the the rocks along the shore.

Another dragonfly.  This one chose to perch on a branch sticking just out of the water.

A view of the land right off the shore of the lake...not exactly sandy beaches, but still quite interesting!

Wildlife all along the lake have adapted to life on the rocks and adjacent grassy areas.  Do you see any wildlife in this photo?

This grasshopper is almost completely camouflaged against the white and gray rocks along the shoreline.

Walking along one of the many trails affords an opportunity to enjoy abundance of wildflowers around the lake.

The Purple Horsemint, Texas Thistle and Mexican Hat flowers all bloom along Lake Georgetown in the spring and summer.

The adorable Purple Verbena is another flower which can be seen on the trails along the lake.

One of the many trails winding around the lake.

Some of the cactus at Lake Georgetown.
