Rule of Thirds

The Rule of Thirds is a general guideline for photographs, paintings, and designs.  The rule states that an image should be viewed as being divided into nine equal parts by two horizontal and two vertical lines, with important elements pertaining to composition placed along these lines or at their intersections.   Points of interest do not need actually touch one of these lines in order for the Rule of Thirds to apply.  In this photo I used the rule by placing the cactus and the bird head close to the bottom horizontal line and the flowers near the intersection of the top horizontal and left vertical lines.

The Tree Cholla, or Cane Cholla is native to the Southwestern United States and Mexico and known for its large, tree-like appearance and yellow fruit.
