Photographing subjects from a distance

Since I'm fairly new at this whole photography thing,  I take great joy going out into the world to apply recently learned lessons on various techniques.  I was able to try out "photographing subjects from a distance" when I saw a squirrel about 100 ft away from me grazing underneath a table.  The technical terminology is still a little daunting for me so, simply put, I used the zoom.  The focal length on my Fugifilm FinePix HS30EXR Camera was 126.0mm and the ISO, which is the film's sensitivity to light, was 640.

The squirrel and I regarded each other as he snacked on his lunch.
